Blackheath takes medals in Kent Junior Foil Competition

Three of our 5 entrants to the 2012 Kent Junior Foil competition took home medals this afternoon (20th May).

Sofiya Marynyak took Bronze in the Girls U12

Alex Kingston took Silver in the boys U12 and

Tom Bevan took Bronze in the Boys U14.

This was the first proper competition for both Tom and Sofiya who can be proud of their achievements.

The other two entrants in the boys U12, Peter Tsirushkin and Sam Fruen (also in his first comp) both got through to the second round of the DE before being knocked out.

The boys displayed commendable camaraderie as they supported each other through the comp especially Alex who had a difficult final against a strong opponent. Sofiya earned respect and friends for the way she determinedly pushed through a difficult and rather painful early round fight against an inexperienced fencer and there were words of praise from coaches for the other boys too.

A great day and a great result for our Musketeers.

17th June London Youth Games

The famous and exciting 32 sport London Boroughs competition sponsored by Balfour Beatty.

This will be held at Redbridge Sports & Leisure Centre, Forest Road, Ilford IG6 3HD

Right next to Fairlop underground station on the Central Line and easily reached by road via Blackwall tunnel and A12. Google says 30 mins but I would give it an hour.

Blackheath hope to enter teams representing both Greenwich and Lewisham boroughs. Your Musketeer must be 17 or under to compete and we will be selecting mixed teams of 4. We will send an U14 team if we can get enough together in that age group otherwise all will go in the U18 team

It will be organised as a standard team relay competition.
