Junior Training Camp 2021

There have been so many enquiries during lockdown about fencing lessons for younger people that we are running a 2 session introduction to fencing camp on Saturdays 7th August and 4th September.

LocationGreenwich West Community Centre, 141 Greenwich High Road, London SE10 8JA (Right next to Greenwich DLR and Network Rail station)
WhenSaturday 7th and 14th August 3.20 to 5pm
CoachesHarry Gulliver, Corsini King and Andrew Nisbet all registered Coaches with DBS, Child Safety and First Aid qualified or highly experienced fencers in a support role
Cost£35 Includes £10 discount on first term’s membership (normal fee £90) if your child joins the club later
NumbersA Maximum of 12 children
Course outline Week 1Introductions – What do they know about fencing?
The difference between stage/film fencing and sport fencing
Basic footwork – advancing, retiring, lunging and step-lunge
Safety briefing
Using plastic training equipment (for speed and fun) two attacks, two defences
Finish with a fun fencing competition
Sizing will take place for use of steel fencing in week 2 (Covid regulations permitting)
Course outline Week 2Use of Steel weapons and use of protective fencing clothing if possible
Footwork fun and tricks
Reprise of Week 1 attacks and defences
Additional attack and defence techniques
Introduction to refereeing and competition rules
Finish with some fun fencing
What to wearBring indoor sports trainers
loose trousers or leggings (no shorts!)
Long sleeved shirt on first Saturday, (no bare arms) T-Shirt on 2nd Saturday
A drink is essential. There are no drinking facilities on site at the present time
SafetySafety is governed by British Fencing regulations both for the use of equipment, such as gloves and masks, and dealing with Covid19.
We follow all their guidelines which are based on government advice and our own risk assessments but our overriding concern is that people feel safe and secure and we will maintain the stricter standards if appropriate. Detailed guidance will be issued before the course

*Waiting ListPlease note that If more than 12 register and pay, attendance is based on a strict date/time of payment basis. The later ones will be held on a reserve list pending any withdrawals and refunds made to those unable to attend. You will of course be able to attend future events or join the club when it restarts. We appreciate your understanding

For legal reasons you need to register your child as a member of the club and to provide the necessary contact details as required under the current circumstances.

You will also need to register your child with British Fencing by obtaining a free 90 Day introductory membership. You will be guided to do this as you register for the club.

Finally, please note that the registration is an adapted version of our normal club membership form. Select ‘Junior Training’ and ‘Camp’ when requested. If you have any problems or queries please contact us as above 10am to 10pm
